Sesg3 voltage reg?
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:44:11 PM »

4500 miles and my charging and check engine light came on today.  I also notice the bike was only showing about 12 volts.  I call Peterson HD and they told me that there's a bullitan on these bikes with the voltage regulator.  So they will pick this up on Monday at my house.   They told me not to ride it that I could get stick somewhere.   Anyone know of a problem with these things?   I'm on my original one on my 04.   :nixweiss:

There's a few threads (or one big one that's been Dood-merged) on this Stu.  Been a common thing.  So if misery loves company at least you've got that going for you.  Service replacement regulators produced in the time period in question are failing too.  But they're not covered by the recall for free replacement (don't ask me how I know ::) ).

Look at this way Stu, at least you were not stuck on the side of the road  :'(.  Mine was built in August 2011, so I think it didn't get one of the "bad" regulator's.  I had no problems on my trip.  ::)

Stu

A friend bought the skunk right after I got my blue SERG.
Within 200 miles the VR went bad on his.
Mine never did cause a problem.
The shop got the notice and checked mine and his.
Mine was listed as one of the bad ones and so was his new one.
Both were changed out with good ones. (knock on redwood) ::)
Life is good!

Mine went out on our first day of our honey moon. yep we got stranded.Got it fixed and we both noticed it is running much cooler than before.
Spent a night at a hotel but they would not pick it up because of the distance. Had to get a friend bring my truck and my trailer to get it there.

live and learn, I guess

all is good now
