SE 6-Speed kit vs '07 6-Speed....Is the same?
« on: July 29, 2006, 11:02:57 AM »

My dealer says that the Screamin' Eagle 6-Speed kit is a little bit different than 6-Speed transmission standard in '07 bikes....any opinion?

I see on your signature line you have a SE 6 speed. That has an overdriven 6th gear (.89:1?) The new '07 (and '06 Dyna) has helical cut gears, larger case and bearings and a 1:1 sixth gear like a Baker DD6. The lower revs are accomplished by changing the primary drive ratio instead of an overdriven gear. The theory is that a 1:1 gear has less drivetrain power loss compared to an overdrive. With the power/torque levels of STOCK, unmodified Harleys, they probably would have poor driveability with an overdrive (lack of power in overdrive because of drivetrain loss). Your modified '06 probably runs strong in 6th gear because you have awakened the stock motor with your mods. My '06 with only exhaust, air cleaner and stage 1 download feels like it has plenty of torque to pull a SE 6th gear. To trade up to an '07 just for the new six speed I would take a bath on my bike and the difference would be more than the cost of an installed SE 6 speed. And I like my paint job better than the '07. So, what is your experience with the SE 6 speed? Are you satisfied? Any gear noise issues, etc?

I should add...once people start working on those '07 bikes what are they going to want? 7th gear, of course!

Tony,

How about a CVT (continuously variable transmission) - infinite gear ratios, no shifting.  Sounds weird without traditional shifts, but with the new exhaust regs you won't be able to hear anything anyway.

I have had a HD SE 6 Speed in my 03 SE Worked over engine since May 05, now I have with my 120 JIMS Engine. I have over 9,000 miles on it with no problems. I use Redline HD Shock Proof in the tranny.

At 80 MPH the tach reads apprx. 2,900 RPMS and at 90 mph it is around 3,200 rpms,

I have not had any problems with it.

The only problem, I think, is I may find myself riding faster. I'm at around 2900 at 70 mph. I may find myself creeping up to 80 until I got used to the motor speed/road speed difference. 5000 rpm must be what, like 140 mph!?

I have not read any negative posts regarding the SE 6 speed. With our winter season (Ohio) I believe I will leave the bike with the dealer (they're so nice, they'll store it for free if I spend thousands of dollars!) and have the SE 6 installed over winter...may as well do the chrome inner primary...self-adjusting primary shoe...and what about those Wild 1 bars?? That's another topic, but anyway, I have not found any reason not to install the SE 6, except the $$, but its not like you guys didn't warn me.

Correct. The 1to1 was one of the deciding factors why I used a Baker over the SE. I'd use it again as I'm that happy with the Baker gear set.[smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Same here. I just ride faster now! I clicked off a indicated 128 before jumping back off of the throttle. My little 95" could use a little more motor for the high end playing.;)
