2010 110/6spd into 2001 88/5spd?
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:07:20 PM »

Thanks for your input guys.  I am thinking of selling my cvo 110 and 6spd to my brother for his 2001 electra ultra, so that I can buy a 120r and replacement 6 spd.  My question is aside from the obvious carb and efi switch out the rest is straight forward correct?  Meaning  we can just take my engine/trans install his covers/carb/etc and no custom fab will be needed?  Thanks again.

I doubt it will be that easy.  The touring model frame was changed in a few areas to accomodate the new style engine/primary/trans in 2007.  Some things would be fairly simple, like the changes to the footboard supports for clearance to the new engine.  Other items like the engine mounts are totally different.  I'm sure there are a lot of other little differences but I'm not aware of any details.  And of course the electrical changes will require a lot of custom fab work.

Aren't the transmission castings totally different between those years?

Sadunbar- I see you are local and have the 120r  (I'm by Sycamore/Genoa)  are you happy with your path or do you think you could have been close to as happy with a head/cam 110?

Yes - I'm happy with the 120r motor...   :2vrolijk_21:

I've also built a couple of 110's.  One with Cycle Rama heads and cams and one with Dave Mackie heads and cams.  Both 110's were stout motors, in the neighborhood of 120/120 -  but neither compare to the 120r, which is north of 130/130 and gives over 40mpg.  I've got over 10K on it, mostly long haul miles vs. around town miles...
