Reading the article it appears that the absolute maximum the Crown prosecutor could request was a $2k fine and a 90 day driving suspension.  Assume that's a Provincial statute rather than Federal?

Crown prosecutor Alexandra Bailey called Kyle “cavalier” for not stopping at the intersection and said it was aggravating that she had received a similar conviction in 2009
