Progressive lowering monotubes on FLHXSE3
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:10:08 PM »

I can barely flatfoot my FLHXSE3 and especially riding 2-up I'd like to feel more comfortable coming to stops. I know people don't recommend lowering the rear so I'm looking at changing the seat and getting the Progressive monotubes to lower the front 1". Seems like that would help with the brake dips and handling overall so it's a win-win. Before I order them, just want to confirm with the knowledgeable folks here that the monotubes with part # 31-2501 will work on a FLHXSE3 and is a good buy?

I have these on my SESG. Yes, that's the correct part. Well worth the money. No more diving front end. I have ridden everything from high speed sweepers to the dragon and haven't had any issues. Make sure you only do the 1" drop and not the 2" (that kit comes with both). The 2" will drop you down too far and your fender will hit the oil cooler.

Have heard those are a step up from stock...
Does anyone have video or visuals on the performance differences?  Just curious.
I am just getting started on some preliminary research on the progressive shock...

Thanks for posting this thread...

Peace y'all...

I would also like some input on this also. With the progressive rear shocks does that get rid of the air system in the rear? Would like to change out the shocks front a back to lower my bike 1" or so and not loose the ride. Don't want it to bottom out.

FLHXSE3 does not have air shocks in the rear.  But yes, on your bike (the bike listed in your profile) Progressive's would remove your air adjustable rear shock setup.

Just installed the monotubes up front, stock length spacers there.
Since this bike has 60k miles, I also replace all the bushings.
I have Works on the back and I like them, lowers just about 1"
Initial ride seemed too stiff on the front, but, that smoothed out today with my BSR along.
I'm liking the setup so far.

Installed the 1" lower monotubes yesterday and WOW!!! Can't believe what a big difference it made. Yes, it does put me a little lower but not as low as I want to be so working with Howard to get some Ohlins to replace the rear shocks. But even now it the bike feels a lot tighter. Going over railroad tracks and the lane dividers on the freeway which previously made the whole bike shake is now effortless. Can barely feel them. Braking is soooooo much better. No brake dive and especially when having to break hard it's a big difference. Awesome upgrade!!
