Who makes Harley oil?
« on: August 11, 2006, 07:47:17 PM »

I have been looking at specs from diffrent oil suppliers. I have been comparing the viscosity, flash, ash%, pour and the % of zinc in each one. Other oil companys post this information freely but for some reason Harley oil top secret stuff. Can anyone point me in a direction to find the real specs on harley oil? Or does anyone know who is the producer behind the label of this Skunk works (area 59) [product is? :-X [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Yep as of right now (and that could change) Citgo. That is the main reason I WON'T BUY IT!!!! As a matter of fact I won't buy any Citgo products.

Thanks that helped. After more research on this I discovered that sunoco is the manufacturer and refinery facility for this oil. I still have not been able to find specs on this oil, but have read several tested that indicate this oil is Not the best oil out there to protect our products. In wear scar lab tests from two sources this oil is (middle of the road ) as far as oils go. I would like to know what oil others are using.

Sun oil company was the manufacturer till last year I believe. Or it was Citgo. Any way they switched manufacturers with in the last year. Seems it goes out on bid!!!!!

Assfault,

If you think finding info on Harley motor oil is tough, try finding even basic information like viscosity on their other fluids and lubes.

After reading the different threads, I just changed to Mobil 1 in all three holes at my recent service check.  I was afraid the service dept would give me a difficult time but they did it willingly.  I also stopped by the local Auto Zone, 3 blocks from the dealership, and they tell me that the service techs regularly visit the store and buy more of the VTwin oil. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I've only gone a few miles with the new oil but have noticed a bit more quiet running machine and possibly cooler temps.  I'll know more after another few weeks.  I didn't plan on putting Mobil 1 in all three holes but I couldn't find the other oil and the dealership said there should be no problem with using the same......we'll see.....
