Xm module install question on 12 se sg
« on: July 24, 2012, 08:11:17 AM »

Has anyone here installed xm module on a 2012 cvo sg? If so what harness number did you use, I have a ultra overlay #70164-06. Nowhere to plug into the bike?

If you are going to use the overlay harness, you will need to re-create the 6B connector which was thoughtlessly left out of the 2011 and later SESG's. DO a search and you will find several posts with instructions on how to do that.

Here is a place to start

If I had the option I'd have just put the XM on my Garmin or used a bar mount unit. The volume output on the HK module is substantially lower than CD and FM. There's no line out adjustment either to turn up. I've installed the latest firmware and still no change. I talked to my technician about it last week and he was informed that it can not be resolved and it will always be lower. Also I installed a 665 on a friend's limited and placed his antenna(which is the XM unit) inside the fairing on top of head unit. His reception surpasses my smaller XM puck which is actually mounted outside the fairing for better reception. Mine came with my ultra so I'll keep it, but I don't think I'm gonna keep my subscription much longer.

I actually took the xm module off my limited because I bought the roadtech 665. I did it only to be able to use my phone with the HDbomm. I am selling my xm module to a buddy to put on his CVO SG. I am going to make up a harness to put it on his bike. Thanks to this forum you can find out more than fooling with the dealers.

Has anyone done this yet...the link is a bit hard for me to follow.  I purchased an 09 SG new and had the dealer install XM.  This was the XM module, the wiring harness and the antenna mounting bracket.  I sold the 09 and kept the XM module, harness and the mounting bracket.  I now have a 12 CVO SG.  I want to put my old XM in the new bike.  That's all I want to do, no navigation, cb, intercom, etc.  Which is the best way to do that?  Thanks.

Count me in on needing this information.  I traded in my '10 SESG for a '12 last week.  I had removed the module, harness and bracket from the 2010 - which I was able to easily install myself despite being an electrical idiot - but found out that some bigger idiot at the MoCo had eliminated the connector that the xm harness pugs into  :soapbox:

Now, if any of you techie types are willing to make me that little "Y" harness that allows me to plug in the ipod and the XM modules simultaneously, I will be very, very happy to pay you handsomely for it.  ;D

Feel free to message me.

Ghost Rider,

Is it your understanding that all that you need to do this is the parts to make the socket?  If so, I am going to go ahead and order them.  When I had the XM put in my 09 Street Glide, I had to get the wiring harness.  I am assuming the harness is already in the 12 CVO Street Glide.  Is that correct?  Thanks.

If you saw in the thread that the link goes to in one of the prior posts, there were "several" different methods for doing this.  There is one that states that you don't need to make the socket, you just need to connect wires from the XM to the connector in the back of the radio and then splice 4 of the xm wires to 4 of the ipod wires.  I already had the NUOH from having xm installed in my 09 SG.  That has the XM connecter and I am using the wires from that.  I took the fairing off of my 12 CVO SG this morning.  The ipod module is on top of the radio, but it doesn't look the same as the pictures I have seen.  The wiring is different from what was on the diagrams for the posts.  Anyway, I'm at work now, so I'll try to figure it out later.  I also ordered everything to make the 6B if I end up going that route.  I am supposed to have them tomorrow.

my pins came in today. Crimped them on and plugged into the radio plug, turned on the key and switched to XM and it works just like it's supposed too. Thanks for all the good info on here!
LOL, I have found you can learn more on here than from talking to the dealers......

Got mine to work, too.  I did not make the new socket, I made the Y harness instead.
