Top end Gasket kit for 110?
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:28:36 AM »

I went in to Harley today and asked for the top end gaskets and new rings for my motor. The parts guy fiddled around with his computer for a while and then diss appeared into the back room. When he returned he had a box with part number 17052-99C and it was labeled gasket kit, top end, 1450/1550/1680.  I told the guy that my bike is a screamin eagle 110 1800cc and asked him if he was sure it was the rite gasket set. He assured me that he had given me the rite parts but I'm not so sure. Upon some research I found part number 17349-07 labeled Top end Gasket kit twin cam 110 OEM. Should I go back and ask for that or is there an updated part number?  Also mite be interested if any one can suggest a better after market set with head gaskets.  The reason for the rebuild is having crankshaft replaced due to being extremely out of balance .029. The bike did have the recall done with new heads and gaskets back in 2008 and no problems since. So I was planning on replacing with the same gaskets.  Thanks in advance for any input.

I'd suggest a Cometic gasket set.

Your parts guy gave you the wrong kit (not a big surprise at a Harley shop).  The latest part number for the correct kit is 17349-07B, and the suggested retail is around $85.

grc does this mean that it is the same gasket kit for the 110 as it is for the 103 and 96 motors?  Wont the bigger bore size require a different head gasket?

Also wanted to ask if anyone could provide me with the correct Cometic gasket kit part number.  Trying to research on line but I'm getting a little confused.  The only kits I can find say 99 and up and specify the smaller bore size.  I guess what I'm asking is if one head gasket fits multiple size motors?  Because by looking at several different web sites and searching by my specific model and year I am lead to believe that is the case.

Thanks Brad

17349-07B Jerry mentioned is specific to the 110 (4.00" bore) motor only...

The Cometic .030 thk. MLS 110 (4.00" bore) head gasket part number is C9725.
The Cometic .040 thk. MLS 110 (4.00" bore) head gasket part number is C9726.

There are three official bore sizes for Twin Cam engines.  The TC88 and the TC96 share the 3.750" bore size, the TC95 and CVO/TC103 share the 3.875 bore size, and the CVO110 has it's own bore size of 4.000".  As Scott noted above, the kit number I posted is for the CVO110 only.

I looked through the Cometic catalog for you but I can't find a kit for the CVO110 4.000" bore engines.  :nixweiss:
