Fuel guage malfunction
« on: December 24, 2012, 11:34:20 AM »

My 2000 CVO Roadglide fuel gauge goes to full when you turn the ignition switch on, I had a dead battery last week and jumped the bike off and hooked the jumper cables up backwards. Did I blow the sending unit in the tank or? any ideas, thanks.

Hi Karl,

Welcome to the site!  Attaching jumper cables to the wrong terminal is not a good thing.   :nervous:  It seems odd, however, that the only thing that got fried would be related to your fuel sending unit.   On the newer bikes, you can reset the ECM for some functions by turning the ignition on and off 3 times in a row.  I'm sorry that I don't know whether it would work on an older bike but it seems simple enough that I would give it a try.   Hopefully one of the guys who owns the holder bikes will chime in and give you a definitive answer.

I hated to say that I was so stupid, that said I thought if I was to get a good answer I needed to tell what happened.
