Tired of excessive heat ( Road Glides), adding my own vents.
« on: August 14, 2012, 12:04:22 PM »

I am in the process of adding my own vents, ones originally meant for an Electra Glide ( Batwing ). Here are some photos, going to attach one at a time since I am computer inept.

I was getting tired of cooking everytime I rode in 80 degrees, or higher, temperatures. Those of you who have ridden a Batwing know how much it helps to open the upper fairing vents. As much as I HATE drilling holes in my fairing I think this is worth it. I don't think they offer any improvement with looks, they are actually a little ugly, but the ability to scoop some air from the sides should make it worthwhile, IMHO.

I don't think you have to drill holes on the new bat wing fairings to install the OEM Harley vents. I think they're pre-drilled and have some sort of plug in them?  I was thinking of adding the OEM vents on my 2012 SESG but just haven't looked into the details yet.

Yes, I am in the process of adding them to a Road Glide, I have owned several Batwings, and loved the adjustable vents, hoping I can make these work on a FLTR.

This has been an exceptionally hot summer for most of the USA and I understand you northern members are on a limited time frame for riding weather before the snow starts flying, but dam there's other things to do beside ride, so why not beat the heat grab a cooler full of cold drinks and a picnic and hit the beach or lake, swimming pool, what have you and limit your rides to early am or after sun down. I love to ride as much as the next guy but it's hard on the body and equipment riding in 90+ degree heat, especially in stop in go traffic. I've done it time after time and after a while its not fun anymore to be uncomfortably hot.
So add all your gadgets, vents, fans, or ride naked, just have fun a be safe!    ;D

I agree, (except for riding naked) so I will just add the vents!
