Is There A Fix?
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:37:43 PM »

Recently bolted on a Fullsac head pipe on my '12 SG. During the installation & bolting all back together I noticed the left side muffler does not travel straight from the cross under pipe inlet to the rear hanger,, does not seem to be any alignment of any sort? Poor cross under design? Would a V&H cross under pipe bolt up properly?

Looking for a fix.

Thanks in advance

If you mean the "horizontal" (looking from the side) try loosening the clamps, both the inlet and outlet of the crossunder pipe and support bracket for it and the muffler hangers and see if the pipe itself is misaligned or got rotated during reassembly. That pipe is kinda short so it wouldn't take much movement to throw off the alignment of the muffler. If you mean the "vertical" (muffler looks crooked from the back) check how far the crossunder is inserted into the headpipe - might be a little room for adjustment there also there is some "adjustability" for this with the muffler hangers themselves. Just make sure all the mounting hardware is loose while you're checking and remember to tighten it all back up when done.

Alomost forgot  ,  have the bike in a vetical position and not on the jiffy stand since being on the jiffy stand will throw off your perspective.

I just installed a Fullsac pipe and it fit perfectly (12 RG).  +1 on the comments above.

Funny my stock one does the same thing. I tried everything to get it straight. I got it better by loosening everything and adjusting but could not get it perfect. Still about an inch difference. To me it's a foot lol. I'm a perfectionist.

Fullsac bolted up perfect, it's the alignment of the left muffler using the OE cross under that's the issue.

Can you take a picture?  The mounting point on the cross-pipe shouldn't be off by that much.  I'd loosen all of the mounting points for the entire exhaust and try adjusting the cross-pipe again.  Sometimes it not obvious which attaching point is throwing off the alignment.  Good luck!

Mr.D, sorry about your issue. When I did my new head pipe I  kept everything loose from front to back and then gradually tightened eveything starting from front to back. Also if you purchase an exhaust pipe expander (I got mine from Harbor Freight) and loosen the pipe ends up a little you'd be surprised how easy things go together. They come in different sizes. Also put some antisieze on your pipe connections. I had a hard time getting the crossover to fit with the new gasket installed, but as soon as I spread the pipe open, just a little, everything slipped together just fine. One more thing, before you bolt on our mufflers start your bike for a second and check for any exhaust leaks at the cylinder head connection. CAHDBIKER
