2.25 cores or 2.5 cores for Rineharts
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:52:02 PM »

Ok so I am bolting up a fullsac "c" xpipe, TTS tuner and Stock Rineharts to my new FLHRSE5.  Should I purchase the 2.5" cores for more sound or do you think I will lose too much torque?  My tuner guy "Don't recomend it" but that was all he would say.

Just looking for a touch more noise over my 103 FLHRC.  Will the 110 give me the extra noise without the 2.5 cores?

Thanks, Rich

Get 'em both, you can change them out in 5 min.
That way you can use the quieter ones during the week, and the loud ones on the weekend!

Don't I have to retune the bike with the bigger cores?

If performance is the priority, listen to your tuner. The 2.5 cores will loose overall power and quite possibly throw off the Vtuning process at low RPM and low throttle settings. The factory 02 sensors have minimum pressure and temperature requirements that they must operate in to have any degree of accuracy. Air being drawn back in to the 02 sensor, (reversion) is another complication of overly large cores.

IMO, the standard 2.25" baffles are plenty loud with the 110.

Steve what would be your recommendation for an OEM 110 in regards to a FS head pipe and FS cores combined with a TTS tuner?

Same rules still apply. I wouldn't go bigger than 2.25. Most guys go with the 2.0 on a Stage I build for a more civilized exhaust note.
The larger 2.25 core shows a very slight gain over the 2.0 when running stock cams. On a Stage II build with cams, the 2.25 core has about a 2-3 HP and TQ
advantage over the smaller 2.0. If your chasing numbers and or a more aggressive sound is the priority, the larger 2.25 cores are the way to go.
And if your really in need of a larger presence, we have the 2.25 SD. Even louder yet. You will have to ask Cammy what SD stands for.
