Extended warranty on new bikes
« on: September 04, 2012, 12:37:43 AM »

I've been searching around the site and can't find just the info I am looking for.

I'm trading my 09 SEUC and I'm picking up a new 2012 SEUC this week.  What I would like to know is if you can still purchase the extended warranty from another dealer or not.  I have seen a few posts that suggest that this practice has come to an end, and other more recent posts suggest that it can still be done.

Second, how much should I pay for the warranty or how much is too much?  I want the 7 year (2 yr factory + 5 years extended + wheels and tires coverage).

If this is still possible, what is the process to get this accomplished?

Folks have recently posted that they still got good prices over the phone from Kutter H-D, try searching on "Kutter".  Jim Palmer, Kutter Harley-Davidson, 608-314-1722

As for pricing, I'm attaching a pdf that shows the most recent MSRP list for the various coverages.  Note that after 90 days the price goes up a couple hundred bucks.  So those prices represent the maximum price IMHO, and if your local dealer won't negotiate you can still try other places locally first (just in case they start that crap about having to see the bike to sell you the policy).  If your dealer tries to charge more than the MSRP price like some folks have reported, you might want to reevaluate your choice of a dealer.

Thanks.  Already got everything I need from Kutter this afternoon.  I can't believe my dealer isn't willing to budge a bit on the price.  I would think that making some profit on it would be better than making none at all.  I suppose that they think it would be setting a dangerous precedent and that the word would get out and everybody would want that pricing.  But, on the other hand, if that would get out to the general public, and I don't know how that would happen, why wouldn't they also assume that getting a better price elsewhere would likewise get out.  I'm back to not understanding why they wouldn't take some profit and be happy.  If it were a small difference, I probably wouldn't even bother with going elsewhere, but it's just too significant when making a purchase of this size.

I brought the Kutter price to the dealership with me. I showed them this was what I was going to pay, who I was paying was up to them. They matched the price which pleasantly surprised me.  :orange:
