In some ways the problems have already started here. We have state inspections for equipment , some areas have pollution inspections and many jurisdictions have noise ordinances. Combine this with EPA pollution and other regulations for MPG figures and you can see how administrative policies and laws can affect motorcycles as we now know them.
This happens in many areas of our lives if it is in the minority and the larger group has no "love" for the activity.
We would have to be willing to put differences aside and not only unite all brands and types of riders but put a positive spin on our activity so the general public could understand. As much as many riders hate a RUB they can be a great source of political clout and change the general public's mind about motorcycles. Everyone expects a biker to be a blue collar worker(I'm NOT criticizing the hard working folks!) but if their dentist/doctor/lawyer/cop/fireman etc. can praise the activity then we don't appear to be society outcasts and undesirables. We can't expect a lone wolf rebel to have much political power to affect change, It takes all of us working together.
More riders should support organizations like the AMA so our voices can be heard. Unfortunately we all will spend more money on chrome/paint/beer then on protecting our freedoms.
We do ourselves harm when we promote the "outlaw" image and do things like aggravate our neighbors when we roar out of our neighborhoods and scare motorists at stoplights and rev our motors unnecessarily. They remember the aggravation and want to see us off the road.
Just my .02 though.
