Bought 09 SERG with SERT tuner and have a tuning question.
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:39:54 AM »

I recently purchased a SERG with Rhinehart true duals and a SERT tuner. All work was done by the dealer, by the first owner. I am the 3rd owner. I called Harley and spoke to service adviser who verified the work done by them. They said the bike was also dyno tuned. Bike seems to run hot to me. Previous bike was an 07 CVO 110 Dyna, so that is what I am comparing SERG too.  When i come off the highway from a leisurely cruise, the bike drops a cylinder by the 2-3rd traffic light. Its hot here in S FL. I truly believe not every dyno tuner is as good as the next, I wanted to see about having the bike retuned. My question is, I was told there is a box or something to go with the tuner? I dont have it, neither does the previous owner. Does this mean I have to buy a new tuner to have it retuned? What about to have it checked on the dyno? Bike runs great, but would sacrifice a bit of power for a cooler motor. Thanks for your help in advance/

Unfortunately you're screwed.  There is a device, dongle, module, whatever you call it.  A small device that is the interface between the bike and the computer managing the tuning.  Once used it is then locked to that bike.  So the user who kept it before you really didn't gain a thing.  But you are at a loss without it.

If you are unable to find that box (dongle) to go from your computer to the ECM then yes you would need to repurchase a tuning device.   If that is the case you might consider buying the TTS This time around vs. the harley tuner.  FWIW the SERT was the original delphi tuner for Harley, but is no longer made and was stopped in 07 due to Steve Cole and Harley deciding to no longer partner.   Today the SERT is named the TTS and can be found at mastertune.net.    The unit the orignal owner had was probably a SEPST  screaming eagle pro super tuner.

In the state here you have Doc1 who is a member (Clermont Area) of this site that tunes with the TTS and is well known as well as Mark @ Cycle Dynamics (Bointon Beach).    Members of this site have used both with good success.

If the bike is shutting down 1 cylinder that soon it is prolly too lean at low rpms / idle.   You can also turn the EITMS off and stop it from shutting down the cylinder if you wanted to the dealer should be able to show you how its done through the throttle grip.

Good luck,
