2003 FLHRSEI2 Rider Backrest
« on: December 31, 2012, 01:41:38 PM »

hi all...

Question for your guys with a 2003 SERK. When I bought the bike it was missing the rider backrest. I was wondering if the backrest that came with the bike from the factory was somehow different than a standard road king. My factory SERK seat does have the slit in it but didnt know if I have to find the compatible backrest for my specific year SE. The HD backrests I have been looking at are not cheap by any means. I was looking at a Grasshopper backrest that is a lot less expensive but seems to have real good reviews. The grasshopper is not adjustable at all though so it is what it is without having the option to tailor the backrest to you specifically.....Anyway, hopefully someone with the proper knowledge of what I can use on my 03 SERK will chime in.

Thanks in advance.....

If I recall.. The 03 serk had a matching rider back rest.   Your dealer should be able to provide a part number.

If the backrest mount is still under the seat, the backrest part number is 52483-03    (BACKREST rider) and retails for around    $190.

unfortunately, the mounting hardware is not there so I would need the entire assy..Dealer I bought the bike said the bike was traded without the backrest. Also was missing the bag liners and cover....Got the key though....These are very minor issues....The bike runs like a raped ape ( in fact has 16 inches apes), sounds great ( reinhart true duals ), not a scratch on it anywhere...So I am happy and just trying to pick up a few things that came with it but I dont have. I am going to have to pick up a good set of highway pegs too....im over 6 foot and I am feeling a bit cramped when my feet are on the floorboards..

May want to get that part number and post a thread in the buying section looking for it. Many members that went to after market seats may have had to remove that part to put the new seat on... may find it sitting collecting dust in somebody's garage and get it for a decent price. :nixweiss:

Do like I did.  Just put a Mustang seat with backrest on it.  Get a better seat and backrest for probably not a lot more than the cost of all the parts you are going to need.

One interesting fact about the original factory backrest,  it's adjustable with a lever mounted between the tank and the seat. Other than that feature it is unremarkable

How many miles does it have on it?
Do you know if you have the OEM CAM Chain Tensioners?
If OEM CAM Tensioners, when was the last time they were checked?

If you have the OEM Tensioners, I would suggest upgrading to the newer Hydraulic CAM Chain tensioners

IMHO, far more critical that the Rider Backrest

This is always a good place to look for parts

The bike just turned 10,000 miles so it wasnt ridden alot...It is in perfect shape and runs perfect. The original owner did a few mods to it like rinehart true duals, hypercharger, 16 inch apes etc..The original equipment didnt come with the bike when I purchased it which included the missing rider backrest.
