New Saddlebag lids for my 2010
« on: October 26, 2012, 05:06:38 PM »

I'm looking to add HD saddlebag lids with speakers to my 2010.  I was told out in Sturgis by HD that they could paint to match, yet when I talk to my dealer, they get a "no way" from HD customer service ???  I would like to stay away from aftermarket painting if possible, any suggestions?

You can take your stock lids to any good paint shop and they can match it. Find several custom paint shops and ask them and then get a quote. If you want it right don't pass out at the price.

My Krypto has the speaker lids. They were added by the previous owner by Baltimore HD. When he ordered the lids he called customer service and inquired about the paint code. Of course MOCO said no way. He got with the dealer rep and "bent" his ear a little about not being able to get them painted to match properly and he spent a ton of money between lids and amp for this upgrade. In the end the rep had him return his lids, and sent the dealer a set already painted to match. This is the story that he gave me when I purchased the bike because I asked how he was able to get them to match perfectly. Hope it helps.

Thanks no luck with the Dealer or MOCO, but did find a painter:  Gunslinger Custom Paint in CO.  Apparently they did the paint work on the 2010 Spiced Rum CVO, and feel that they can match the color to a 98% match.

Sorry bud, you have to go aftermarket.

www.gcpaint.com

Gunslingers Custom Paint paints for Harley.  I've worked with them specifically over the past couple years on various projects, and they are very qualified.

I know they've done Spiced Rum too, as they've discussed with me other repair work they've done for that color on an outer fairing before.

And, they're very much used to working with folks from out of state.  You can ship them the parts to be painted.  And if I was adding those bag lids, I'd send them the grills too for painting.  Might as well match all of them!

Good call on Gun Slingers, I think that's the route I'm going to go this winter.

Good choice.

When you call them, work with Kent.

Tell him Chad sent you from the CVO Harley forum.  Remind him that I'm the guy he is going to be painting a Road Glide fairing to match a 10 FLHXSE in Tequila Sunrise.  They painted my FLHXSE inner and repainted my 03 Heritage Springer; MOCO never released the silver from 03.

You'll be the second person I've sent that way for speaker lids.
