HD '06 FLHTCUSE 5-speed - Should I sell it?
« on: August 30, 2006, 08:02:01 PM »

I am having installed a Baker DD6 transmission on my 2006 FLHTCUSE on the 12th and am installing the whole transmission.

Thus - I have my original HD 2006 FLHTCUSE 5-speed transmission with 3k miles on it that (although I have thought of keeping) wish to sell.  If I do have a problem with the Baker I plan on just having it repaired - is this wrong and do you think I should keep the original transmission?  I am not planning on selling this bike...[/i]

Also - as I have posted else where here - I have never sold motorcycle parts before - and don't even know if it is worth my time so I thought I would ask my fellow "Bro's and Sisters" here what you all think...

How much should I ask for it?
Where should I sell it - eBay comes to mind but I always hear about the Fraud...
Should I post it in the Motorcycle trader or post a note at the local HD Shop?

Any ideals greatly appreciated  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

John-

I would do the Ebay route.  I have had good luck with Harley buyers on Ebay and have got good prices.  Take several good pictures and a very good description.
I did a quick look on Ebay and used 5speeds were going for $500-600 and new were $750-up..  Gear sets go for around $300..
I remember reading on here that a fellow member got around $300 for his gear set.  I also looked under completed listings and the tranny's that sold were in those ranges.  I would not take under $500 for it.  Good luck and let us know how you make out.

John,
I to would suggest the eBay route. The prices Boatman quoted you sound good from what I've heard and seen them going for on eBay. Only reason I could see keeping it versus selling it is if you trying to have enough spare parts to one day build your own if not get rid of it. ;D

So - eBay sounds like a place where I can place it and sell it while not getting ripped off.

Go with the 2-3 standard pics that ebay gives you with a standard listing, its not like we dont all know what a HD tranny looks like :) List it for 7 days, remembering that whenever you start the listing, that is when it will end, unless you pay more to schedule the start time, - example, you start your listing thursday night at 10pm - then it will end the following thursday night at 10pm. You will often get a flurry of bids at the last minute and more likely to happen at 10-11pm on a thursday then say 9am on wednesday. I would start it at 300, that way bidders know they CAN get it by bidding, and you will have more serious bidders than starting it low and having a reserve, but dont sweat it if you dont get a bid til the last day, and also if you dont get a bid wait a week or two and relist for free. I sold a bike a few years ago - first listing not much interest didnt get my price, two weeks later, same listing 3 guys came to see the bike, a bidding war broke out on the last day, and I got 3600 above what I was lookin for. Sometimes the buyers your lookin for are there, other times there not, be patient and you'll get it. As for fraud, I've been doin it for years and never had a problem buyin or selling many items HD or otherwise, but the bikers I've dealt with have been beyond a doubt the best to deal with. Good Luck, any questions - feel free to ask :)

I think we have beat this horse into the ground and have concluded - for a few of us that extra gear is needed becuase of our speed on the highway while others don't need it.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Guess I'm still mustering up the strength to go Ebay'ng with this tranny but since I'm an eBay "Virgin" I'm a little nervous for the first time...  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Sell it, and I would think a hole tranny would be easier than a gear set to sell.  I kept mine because my 04 has a 5 speed just incase I need a part some day.  It had 3 miles on it when I took it out and did the HD 6 speed.
