How do you like the Heat Demons grip warmers?
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:53:59 PM »

I am thinking of getting a set of Heat Demons, are there any issues using these with the Kuryakin padded style grips where the heat element has difficulty warming these thicker style grips?
Thanks,....Sawyerghost

You've hit on the exact issue with the Heat Demons. Where the grid on the Harley Heated Grips are in the grips, the Heat Demons grid is obviously inside of the bar when installed.  While the Heat Demons have much, much better life, they definitely don't get as hot as the Harleys.  That might be part of the problem that the Harley grips just get too hot and eventually burn up. I replaced my stockers 3 times and finally threw in the towel.

The original grips got so hot that at #6, they got uncomfortable to hold with bare hands. However, I kind of liked that because they were perfect with gloves.  However, the Heat Demons don't get anywhere near as hot. You can definitely feel them, but with gloves just barely. I went with the same style non-heated grips so even thicker ones will probably get less hot as well.

So unfortunately the trade off is, life vs performance.

Not sure which Kuryakyn grip you're discussing.  I use the Heat Demons with the Kuryakyn ISO grips.  It takes a few minutes for the heat to "catch up" and radiate through the grips to your hands.  Once they've caught up though they work fine and stay warm.  Be patient that first five minutes or so and it's ok.

I had a set of Heat Demons on with a set of the SAC foam elements.  Those are even thicker and less dense.  Super comfortbable grips to ride with.  But lousy for the heating elements.  Not enough density to hold the heat and what head did radiate through took a long time to get there.

Yea, the thicker the material, and the less dense it is, the slower the process.  But, it will still be better than not having anything.

Thanks for your thoughts, I have the Kuryakyn pilot grips , similar to the ISO grips, so that will be the challenge to go through that thickness and still feel it through a mid weight glove.
Had several sets of the HD grips, like all of us know they do fail.

Just replaced my grips on the softtail and that was one of the considerations of the type/style grips to purchase.  The Heat Demons literature will tell you that the more conductive material and the less rubber, etc. in the grips, the better they'll work.  I love the 'Demons' year round on both bikes, but esp. this time of year.
