air filter backplate referbed
« on: December 05, 2012, 01:57:44 PM »

Back in the begging of Nov. some of you may remember. I wonted to clean up the air filter backplate. I got some good advice and direction to go.
Well I didn't realize what I was letting my self in for I had cleaned it up then went with a high temp. gloss. That was when I found that the pot metail gets contaminates absorbed into the metail and the paint won't bond smoothly. I had to use a course, medium, and fine wet and dry emery cloth, man what a chore sanding that down to metail again.
Any way to cut a long story short got it done and dusted look grate. All the elbow grease and patience paid off. Not a big cosmedic job, but a time consuming and fiddly kind of job. Recommend fine sand blast to any one wonting to do the same.
Just thought I'd drop the post and say, Thanks for the input. I also was asked to post some pics of the finished resalt.  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Nice paint job.  You did it right!  Another way to clean it is to take it to a shop and have them bead blast the crud off.  That would get into even the tightest spots on the plate.

Now I'm going to have to look at mine to see if it looks like yours did.

Thanks for the report. :2vrolijk_21:

Looks good. Not trying to be a smartass, but why? U can't see any of your hard labor except where it bolts to the heads once the cover is on.

That was the hole point!! you can see the pot metal mounting post between head and cover looked
cheep and nasty in my books . I put in all the hard labor on doing the complete mounting plat
in stead of just doing the two bits that can be seen was all do to "self satisfaction" other then that I really
            have no excuse :nixweiss:
