Question about 12" bars and cables ?
« on: July 13, 2013, 09:39:41 PM »

Hey guys, I am thinking about upgrading to 12" bars on my 05 CVO E.G. I was wondering who has done this and what stock length cables worked, and which ones had to be changed out for longer cables? I have read conflicting information about this before. Just wondering who has hands on experience?

Thanks.

I went with the Wild 1 (578)12" bagger bars and 8" longer lines. Also used the one piece riser top clamp and poly bushings. My hands are dead even with the top of the fairing and with the extended lines have no issues with turning or binding. The poly bushing will seem to transmit a bit more vibration thru the bars but...am very happy with the upgrade and the components are first class.

I completed install of the 12" bagger bars, and they are the perfect height and width for me. Much improvement over the stock bars in looks and comfort. I went with a 4" cable increase all around and worked great.

I just have before and after pics. I guess I should have documented everything during the process, but there are other videos and pics out there that go through the whole process. Is there a particular type of pic you would like to see? Here is the before and after...

Do you get a lot of wind on your hands? Or does the fairing kick the wind over

I haven't noticed the wind on my hands, the fairing does a good job at deflecting the wind up and over this area. The new hand position makes the ride much more enjoyable than in the stock position.  :)

If you shop around for the best prices on bars and parts, and do the labor yourself, you might could do it for somewhere around $400. If you are paying a dealer to do it, I have heard people spend anywhere from $1100-$1500, depending on what bars you choose. It will take about a full days labor to do it yourself, if you have the time.
