50mm vs 58mm throttle body question
« on: December 25, 2012, 10:52:26 PM »

I've tried to do some research on the site to find the answer to my question but have not found it.  If it is out there I apologize.  Why did Harley go with the 58mm throttle body on the CVO after 09?  Or am I mistaken on that?  From everything that I have read on the site there is no real gain in the 58mm until after 100 horsepower or with a motor that has had some head work and cams.  The reason I ask is that I have went with 10.5-1 psitons and 259e cams, but kept the stock heads.  Wondering if the the 58mm throttlebody would give me any real gains?  From what I read the 58mm would maybe gain some on the top end but I would loose some on the bottom end with what I have now.

Anyway...thanks for any info you experts can give.

From what I know the 110 uses the same throttle body as the 96 and 103. My 120 came with a 58mm.

Stock should be 50 mm, 46 for the dyna and softail's i believe. 58 is not oem for a 110 motor.

All 110's have a 50mm TB as far as I know.

My Conv. has a 58 though  :nervous:

First, no CVO110 has ever come stock with a 58mm throttle body.  Initially they came with the same TB that the previous bikes had (46mm).  Then for the 2008 model year the Touring models got a new electronic throttle controll (ETC) TB that measured 50mm.  That is the same TB that is currently used on all CVO Touring models and the 2011/2012 CVO Softail Convertible.  The 58mm TB is a SE Pro part from the SE catalog, not a regular production part.

Jerry,

Maybe you can recall better than I, but didn't the earlier streetglides 06/07 not cvo came with a 50mm whiile 07's cvo had the 46mm and the 43mm on the 03-06 SEEG/SEUC.   then when they moved to the FBW they went to the 50mm ?

The first Delphi throttle bodies were 43mm and were installed from 2001 through 2005 (carb models had a 40mm CV carb).  For 2006 Harley introduced the all new one piece induction module (no separate intake manifold) and it measured 46mm.  Many considered it a step backward, as the integrated manifold didn't flow all that well.  The 46mm TB has remained the stock offering on Big Twins to this day, with the exception of the Electronic Throttle Control bikes which use a 50mm version.  There was no 50mm TB stock on the '06/'07 Streetglides, but there was a 50mm one piece induction module offered in the SE catalog.

To the best of my knowledge the above is factual.  However, as always I reserve the right to be FOS.
