Front wheel bearings
« on: December 03, 2012, 04:33:13 PM »

What are the thoughts about changing the front wheel bearings before they go bad as a precaution. If so what miles. On my last bike one went out the day before a trip with no signs that I should have noticed before.

I have 20.000 miles on one and it started roaring pulled the wheel and the bearing found rust on the bearing I thing this happened from NOT riding the bike after washing   for the low cost of bearings I think I will change at each tire change....

I wash my 'sikle often, too.  Is there anything way to lube the bearings, or extend their life somehow?

What about inspecting them?  Is there a way to do that, BEFORE the roaring starts?

Each tire change might be bit to early. I have 27,000 and they sound and look OK. I was thinking about 35,000.

You can pull the wheel off and feel the bearings, you can carefuly remove the seal and pack more grease in the bearing.(non abs). the abs bearing come with more grease.
I pack all new bearings be for installing. Iam off till wed. I'll take some pictures.   axil

My front wheel bearings had to be replaced at just under 17K if I remember correcly( they started to make a howling type sound) along with the compensator. Glad it is still under warranty.CAHDBIKER

On my 05 SEEG I did them at 40,000. Didn't notice anything unusual, just did it as precaution while getting other work done. :nixweiss:
