« on: August 28, 2006, 09:28:01 PM »

Looking through the tech info fxdjerry gave us a link to, it appears that there will be both street legal calibrations for '07's as well as "race" (off road only) calibrations.  I'm amazed the MoCo is still going to offer the "race" calibrations, since they violate both the intent and the letter of the law if used on the street.  Anyway, the "race" calibrations will not be a direct ECM download but will require a Race Tuner.  So for those worrying about being able to modify their '07's, it looks like it's going to be business as usual.

I had my dealer install V&H oval slip ons, SERT (calibration #84), and Stage I A/C on my '07 SE Ultra. She runs a lot better and sounds great. This is the same set-up that some other HD dealers are doing on their non-CVO '07 bikes on the showroom floor (probably a different SERT calibration # on the 96 inch motors). My dealer service manager said as long as I leave the SERT calibration set at the factory recommended calibration I shouldn't have any warranty issues. The SERT download does cause the MoCo to "blackflag" your VIN# since it is "race use only"  and the MoCO will ask the dealer lots of questions if you blow a motor, but as long as you don't mess around w/ the factory recommended calibration setting (the ECM "remembers" all of the calibrations you may have programmed in to it via the SERT) then all of the dealers I've talked to said that warranty will be ok.

ACE I am not sure that I understand your post. The factory calibration that is in your ECM is ONLY available from the dealer. When you buy a race tuner it does not come with the "factory stock" calibration for your bike. So if you load a calibration for a harley stage 1 setting into your ecm, then poof your stock calibration is gone. To make matters worse there is no way you can download or look at the stock calibration so you can duplicate it with the race tuner. Having said that a stage 1 calibration is generally so mildly different that there would be no point in worrying about it. The race tuner does read the number of the calibration currently loaded into the ECM but that may only have been a starter map and could have been considerably modified and still have the same name. So the comment about as long as you leave the calibration set at the factory recommended calibration does not make sense and is untrue since the only way you can make a modification to the map is to load a new one in and by definition it will not be the "stock" map. I think the truth of the matter is that most dealers are willing to look the other way when it comes to warranty issues potentially related to performance modifications if they did the work and sold you the bike. Strictly speaking though, as soon as you make modifications the warranty is toast, and if they wanted to HD can deny your claim. And yes, I am aware of the ? magnusson - moss (can't remember exact name) act that you folks have and it will provide minimal protection for you if you make engine or tuning mods and something breaks. Oh, and as far as I know the ECM does not "remember" all of the calibrations you have programmed in. When you start up the race tuner it gives you the number of the calibration currently loaded into the ECM, but of course this will have been a map supplied with the race tuner and could have been considerably modified with the race tuner software, so there is no way to really know what is in there (at least for us). Maybe the digital technician that the dealer has can read the actual map_ I will have to ask about that, but you can be sure the ecm does not have the memory capacity to record all the maps and changes that have been made previously

What I meant, is that HD recommends SERT calibration#84 for the 110 SE Ultra w/ Stage I A/C  and "racing" exhaust. As long as you download calibration #84 and run that recommended calibration then I've been told that you should be ok w/ the warranty. I have been told that if you run a SERT calibration other than #84, then that info is stored in the ECM and the MOCO can use that against you if you have engine problems.
