If you are looking for a greatly improved ride you may want to try this setup.

Hi Cyril
I changed out to the standard length Premium Ride HD shocks and front cartridges .
I did it because I normally ride longer distance trips with load ( ie QLD to Phillip Island for MotoGP each year is a 5500km round trip )
Most of my rides are around 250km to 500km on a weekend.
Roads in Australia are crap so the extra  travel is very welcome .
Only  downside  is losing slammed look at rear end .
There are lots of threads on here , most guys seem to use Progressives.
Hope this helps a bit

cyril, i looked at the standard length premium hand adj shocks but they don,t give any extra travel, they have a longer rod and spring but a inch thicker bump stop so you only get 2 inch of stroke/travel. only advantage is raising the bike up for little more corner clearance, so i left the bike as it was, its a shame you dont get the extra travel, these shocks seem to make little sense to me as floor boards will touch before the rear.

Damn , wish I had researched more .
It does feel better though? Maybe it's the extra ride height ?

dave, it could be the longer spring giving them a softer ride, i didnt measure the coil diam as i was only looking for the extra travel. did you notice any diff with the fork kit positives/negatives

Yeah the fork kit works much better than OEM .
Takes out some ( not all ) diving under brakes and virtually no wallowing when pushing through winding rough stuff .
I put them in my 2011, liked them so put them in the 12

Why did i ask, well i like the street glide i did an advanced riding course on one. I have only owned
RK,Ultra, 2x SE Ultra`s, currently CVO RG Ultra.
If i had a SG i know the ride is good but too stiff to my liking if i could soften it a little, i`m there
to add it would be lighter & a touch lower.
We have a lot of small roads in the UK (B) roads usually poor quality,  we like to use non motorway routes because the motorways are often busy ,the Ultras etc can be a handfull on the small stuff . So the SG would make a good all rounder.
If the shocks were sorted (progressive) probably , i have 440s on the RG & they are an improvement.

Not trying to second guess you but how did you come to this information?  It is contrary to what I've read elsewhere about the 12" and 13" premium shocks e.g. that the 13" has more suspension travel.  Overall, there is very little verifiable information about this key parameter of the shock, though.

Harley doesn't publish all the nice specs for their shocks like the aftermarket does, so unless someone wanted to remove the springs and physically measure the actual travel of the two shocks I'm not sure how you would know the answer.  As far as other shocks on the market are concerned, you can find certain models that have identical travel in both their 12" and 13" versions, and other models that have a half inch or more difference in travel between the two lengths.  In other words, you can't assume anything based strictly on the stated length of the shock.  If you want to get a better idea of what I'm talking about, spend some time with the Progressive Suspension tech data sheet for their products and compare travel numbers for the various lengths.  You may be surprised at some of them.
