FLHRSE4 , Starting Problems
« on: January 21, 2013, 08:30:26 PM »

I have a 2008 FLHRSE4 Roadking, i am having starting issues, fist the starter clutch failed , Dealer put a new (supposedly)heavy duty one in , and a new battery, worked for couple days ,they say they checked the ACR ,and are working ok. but sometimes when i try to start it , it seems like it is trying to start under compression(possible why starter clutch failed in the first place), just had it TUNED on DYNO and they say it good , it started good at the shop , i rode home 80 miles , tried to start it again and its worse , 2 good starts out of 9? , sometimes it grinds over then puff out the air filter, then another grinds over and shot flame out muffler , sometimes good start, HAS ANY ONE had any starting issues , what was it . ANY HELP at all would be good and appreciated, thanks people . Granite

Quite likely you have a compensator issue...  Do you have the stock compensator or SE compensator?  At any rate, regardless of which is in your bike, you have classic compensator symptoms.  I'd suggest replacing it.

Part number 40274-08A...

Good luck!   :2vrolijk_21:

I'm not a mech, but it sounds like the ACR's. I had a built softail that had manual releases and that is just the way it would act when I had to many :cherry: Would forget to push them in. Good luck

LOTS of tuners turn the acr's off due to failure to read the fine manual.....

the first issue is make the damn tuner PROVE they have the acr's turned on.

if they cant prove they are on - its because they have absolutely NO IDEA how to turn them on - and most non stock calibrations of all sorts default to acr's off.

then start trying to figure out what else is going on
