Covers and such
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:21:46 AM »

OK this is a new B question.

What covers can I install on my 110 motor/transmission without alot a mess?  I really like the RSD and HD flat style cam covers, I think that what they are, the one where the points use to be.  Then theres the ones for the transmission, anything to look out for with the hydro clutch?

There are so many, many choices out there it boils down to what catches your eye most.  The HD Parts & Accessories catalogue is full of bling just waiting for someone to break out the plastic.  Independents (Drag Specialties, Dennis Kirk, Kuryakyn, J&P Cycles, etc., etc., have pages & pages of 'theme' stuff such as skulls, flames, spider webs, if you want to start w/ a few items then expand as $ permit.  I will dare to say that the Harley Davidson motorcycle can be accessorized more than any motorized device in our nation's history.

"a lot of mess" is subjective, what is hard for one guy is easy for another. Start with what seems easy for you, then challenge yourself on the next. When you need help you can buy a repair manual and ask here for help.

It's all about the fun of making it your own and learning more about the "Harley life" you have chosen to join.

I'm a good gauge.  I'm a mechanical misfit and I was able to change all my covers with no issues, well just one out of a couple dozen?  Just be careful, you don't want to strip one of those torques, make sure you have the right size.  Did that and thats where I had to call on a friend with an eazyout.

Agreed....you might want to get it first so you won't be stuck not being able to get it to match the rest of your 'collection'.

IMHO, when I get a new bike I like to pick a theme and start off slow and re-evaluate as I am going along, this will help you keep on tract with the theme you choose.  As it was stated earier in this post, get the H-D Parts and Accessories catalog, then you can go through it as you have time and start making a wish list. It's easy to get carried away and buy a bunch of chrome and other goodies all at once, then have it all installed and it looks like crap because things didn't match or your theme doesn't flow. Take your time and have fun making it your very own one off!
