Bike Lift Mod
« on: January 26, 2013, 03:28:17 AM »

The hydraulic release peddle on my bike lift has one position - D O W N   F A S T.
Its well scary seeing how fast the bike gets lowered once I gently push that peddle to lower the bike.
To resolve I drilled and threaded a hole in the frame of the lift below the peddle release lever. Then put a M8 bolt and adjusted the bolt to only permit a very slight movement of the peddle. Then locked that position with a nut. Now the bike slowly gets lowered.

For a little amount of effort I can now relax when the bike is lowered back to its jiffy side stand. :jalapeno:

Very Nice. :2vrolijk_21:

I tap my foot on the leaver but that stop and go motion would jerk the bike.

The idea wasn't mine, I just refined a process discussed in the Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain at
http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.com/forum/hdrcgb-tech-tips/64849-clarkes-cml2-motorcycle-lift-modification.html

The lift I have is called an "Americana".

The reason I tapped the hole drilled in the frame rather than drilling the pedal is that the pedal is cast iron and I wasn't too sure how strong the casting was. Also it was easier to drill and tap a vertical hole in the frame than to attempt to drill a hole in the non horizontal pedal.
