Over here in Europe we must now carry (in some countries ride with) a high viz vest. I was in New York for a couple of days last week and saw some police officers wearing high viz velcro vests over their uniforms with 'NYPD' on. Would love to get my hands on one, so any help would be appreciated.
I actually asked one of the traffic cops to sell me his, but as he was on duty at the time, unfortunately he couldn't.

I doubt you will (it would be rather hard to) get one w/"...PD" on it w/o belonging to a law enforcement agency, however there are many companies that offer motorcycle high visibility vest (including the MoCo) .

Would not recommend that... some (most) places have laws against impersonating a law enforcement officer (the main reason why anyone can't buy them outright w/that lettering) and could/would consider wearing that such the offense.

Agreed.  Not suggesting he should break any laws here.  Lots of folks wear items with "CSI", "NYPD", "FBI", "CIA" or "NYFD" logos on them and aren't law enforcement nor are they suggesting they were.  Just supporters.  My suggestion was intended as a supporter of such, not to impersonate any law, fire or federal departments.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to impersonate a law officer - and not too sure that anything with '...PD' would mean that much over here anyways. Just thought it would be cool. The policeman I spoke to was definitely prepared to sell me his, but not while he was on duty.

I did see a shop (it was closed at the time) near my hotel which seemed to sell lots of police badges and other gear to the general public. That stuff looked far more impressive than a vest with '...PD' on it!

I would reconsider wanting to ride around looking like a cop.  May get your ass run off the road!
