well, i don't know about the best, and i know many people will argue about it, but i got mine from best buy.  reason?  because they have a fairly decent selection, and you can get a period of interest free financing.  sure, i could have bought it outright, but if they are going to allow me to pay if off over 6 or 12 months without interest, why not let my money work for me instead?  plus, if you buy an accessory package, there is usually a price break there as well.

If you know what you want, Amazon it or check to see if its offered at your local SAMs Club or Costco

I recently got a pretty good Nikon.  Checked with Amazon and others doing homework but ending up getting the best deal at Best Buy.  Just my experience.

eBay isn't bad if you know what camera and buy from a known seller. I bought a Canon s100 new in the box for Xmas this year.

I've made several on-line purchases (electronics and cameras) from J&R (New York); their prices are always competitive and I've experienced quick delivery and received new merchadise in OEM packaging, no grey market stuff.
