Trying to remove the tacky glue!!
« on: February 06, 2013, 03:00:33 AM »

Guys, I am about to install a Mustang solo seat and have peeled away the protective coating on the rear fender that is under the original seat.  Trouble is that it has left a lot of tacky glue on the rear fender and I am having a lot of trouble removing it.  Any Suggestions? :nixweiss:

There are several products that work well. Try Goo Gone  or Goof Off

Use a hot air gun or hair dryer to warm up the glue, then press some wide packaging tape onto the warm glue and then peel off.  Repeat until most of the mess is removed, then carefully use an adhesive removal product.  Things like Goof-Off or Goo Gone work pretty well, but they can damage some materials so be careful.  Try an auto body shop supplier for one of the products sold to remove moulding adhesives from auto paint; 3M makes a good one.

I've had a can of this 3M product for 20 years...a little goes a long way, and it works great!

My clear coat cracked around where the plastic film was
My guard is getting the holes welded and repainted
Should give nice clean lines no holes

Auto Body paint & supply stores sell wax & grease removers or precleaners to use before the painting process. These solvents will not afect the clearcoat or paint & are also good for removing tar & or sticky road grime & also glue like you
are trying to remove...........Just be sure to wax the area that you used it on as it also removes wax.
