Rushmore CB PTT (Push To Talk) moved
« on: August 06, 2016, 12:28:46 PM »

I recently traded my 2012 CVO for a 2016.  I didn't take notice of the PTT location till I was riding with my local HOG chapter.

Is anyone else concerned that the PTT was placed on the throttle side?  This prevent me from using the radio most of the time due to having to manipulate or contort my right hand to use the PTT.

I hope that someone comes up with electronic boards to swap the CRUSE and PTT buttons.  My understanding is the small boards behind the switches are one for each side, making them impossible to swap.

Does anyone know the reasoning that the Rushmore team chose to swap the buttons from the previous years models?

No idea why they moved them or who thought it was a good idea.  For those of us who do use the CB it is awful.

No idea why they moved them buy I prefer it the new way. I use the cruise more than the PTT and find it much easier to keep a steady throttle with one hand and push the cruise switch with the other. As far as using the PTT, I normally have my cruise set if I'm going to use it anyway. VOX is always an option.

As a road captain I use the CB frequently.  My issue is why on earth the PTT button comes to a point and not flat nosed.  I don't actually look at the button when pressing it and find my squelch being adjusted unintentionally because you have to hit the point end dead on to talk.  What about a PTT button similar to the Trigger Switch on top of the right side so all you do is use your index finger while maintaining throttle control.

I haven't used the CB but out of curiosity why are you not using the VOX to break in vs the PTT switch? Or am I missing something here?
I like the cruise being on the left.

I use the CB a lot when I ride with my buddy and I have no issue with the PTT button on my 14 CVO.

I heard that the new bikes cannot use the hand held mike. All CB communications MUST be done via headset. Is that true?

You can but you also have to push the PTT to make it work. It won't work on its own like the 2013 and earlier models.

So,...you hold the mic to your mouth with one hand, and press the handlebar PTT with the other hand?

Pardon my ignorance, perhaps I'm not seeing the big picture here. Why would they design it that way? It makes no sense.

Could have something to do with the BCM module that's on the 2014 and newer bikes.

Here is a way to use the CB for those that don't want to mount the microphone in their helmet or if you do not ride with a helmet. It is easier than holding the old hand held mic in your left hand and pushing the ptt with your right hand. Here you just lean up a little bit and push the ptt button. The sound quality is better than the old hand held mic.
