5 in 1 article from HOG mag #17
« on: March 03, 2013, 05:39:54 PM »

My buddies and I are planning on riding the Moutians in Colorado this summer. After reading the article in 017 HOG Mag 5 Peaks in 1 day over 10,000 ft in one day, I felt like that should be someting that we do while we are in CO this summer. I am looking for some reviews of the route and other insider info that will be helpful in planning our out trip out west.

I ride 6 passes over 10k all the time in a single day.  The route is in the San Juan Mtns. and includes Slumgullion, Spring Creek (Continental Divide), Wolf Creek, Coal Bank, Molas, and Red Mountain.  The route is 149 south to 160 and west to 550 and north on 550.  Begin in Lake City and end in Ouray.  If you are adventurous you can throw in Lizard Head for fun.  :)

Unfortunately, I am no longer a HOG member so I can't comment on the ride you mentioned, but I can't believe it compares to the route that I described.  :)

Not sure how many peaks, but I hit a deer at 11,400 ft bout 10 miles south of Silverton on 550. A truly great ride(cept for Bambi). Stayed on 550 thru Ouray to Ridgway. Then 62 to 145 back thru Telluride to Dolores. WHAT A RIDE!!!
