I think that H-D chrome can be bought in a spray can now.   :D

Has anyone had issues with the grips peeling chrome?

I had a pair of Kury ISO grips on another bike.  In less than a year, the chrome started pealing off the Kury grips... it's not just HD chrome.  :(

My 05 SEEG did the exact same thing .... wheels too, that's HD quality for you.

Have concluded my problem is premature "road rash" or damage from sand and debris.  It is worse on the mirrors but all the chrome in front is showing damage as if the bike had 40+k miles on it and many years of riding.  Having only had the bike for 2 years it really stinks to see it already.

My 2003 Ultra had thousands of miles on it before this damage showed up.  It's got to be the chrome layer is thinner these days.  Cheap trash.  Not what I expect from a 30k bike.

This will be the last Harley for me.  I may have it 10 years but I'm not giving them anymore money for crappy quality chrome parts.

Going to try to get the mirrors replaced but since the damage is not apparent elsewhere unless you look close I'm sure they will weasel out of honoring my warranty on the major stuff up front.  Heck they may not even give me new mirrors.

Hey Sledge:

Sorry to hear of these issues. My bike is five years old, with over 45,000 miles on it and the chrome looks great.  I live in the SF Bay Area and ride along the coast a lot.  I've seen some other members bike with chrome pealing on certain parts, but there's no real rhyme or reason.  For four years I lived right on the coast and had no problems with rusting on my bikes.  So, that's a line of bull, if the bike is cared for appropriately.  Now, the rock salt on the roads in the rust belt is another story altogether.

Just pondering whether or not some use pressure sprayers and detergents on their bikes?  I do neither and use no water, just spray cleaners and waxes.  Water can be  corrosive and might damage painted and chrome surfaces to varying degrees depending on the mineral content and treatment.

Hope the dealer works with you on this.

Another question:
Do you get love bugs in your area?  I remember dodging them in Florida during certain times of the year.  They smash very easily when hit and the acids in their bodies will damage paint and chrome if not removed immediately.  Nasty critters.

Good luck with this.

Best,
Ken
