Excessive Valvetrain Noise = New Engine
« on: March 11, 2013, 06:20:21 PM »

Since the day I picked the bike up, I complained about the valvetrain noise and got the same answer HD has for everything...."That's Normal"

Well, after a trip in September and the bike sounding like it was eating itself alive I said enough, fix it or buy it back. After arguing with ESP and the HD rep, they finally agreed to pull the engine apart and see what it looks like. The lifters were flat spotted, the oil pump had grooves in it where metal had gone through, the lifter holes were egg shaped, and the compensator was broken and looked like it had been that way awhile. They told me that Royal Purple is too slick and it caused the rollers not to turn, I replied, If it was that slick, why did they wear like they did....."crickets"
So, I get the bike back last Saturday and decide to do a ride on Sunday. 20 miles out of town and I get check engine lights. I don't know if I should tell them it's buy back time or give them 1 more chance to fix it. Stay tuned and I'll let you know how it goes.......

You gotta be smart enough to understand the rules of motorcycling, and dumb enough to think the game's important.
