Just for info....
Traffic related statutes vary by STATE (I'm sure you guys already know that). There are very few traffic laws that are "exactly" the same, State by State...
Most of the "MOVING VIOLATIONS" are almost identical, (EXCESSIVE SPEED, TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, etc.), but even those are not "exact" in state statute wording or punishment.
IN FLORIDA (and quite a few other states as well), "DISPLAYING" RED or BLUE lights/lamps that are visible from the front of the vehicle while the vehicle is "IN MOTION UPON ANY ROAD OR HIGHWAY", is strictly prohibited. It is almost impossible to put LED lights on a motorcycle without them being visible from the front. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would take some creative installation. I have seen hundreds cited for Florida STATE Statute 316.2397, and when I was working (before I retired), I stopped and "warned" several motorists and even recall issuing a citation to at least one motorist (in a 280-Z Nissan). The driver became belligerent and basically "challenged" the validity of why I had stopped him...his fine doubled when he decided to take it to court. ALL he had to do that night, was say, "No Problem Officer, I'll take care of the issue", and he would have had a full wallet. Back in 2002, I remember being at Daytona Bike Week and watched on the corner of SR 92 & Beach Street as about 15 Volusia Co. Deputy's and Daytona Beach PD Officers were pulling bike after bike over that had RED or BLUE LED Displays on their bikes. The LED trend had just started gaining popularity....I still see it happening from time to time, here in S. Florida where I live and ride. I think "MOST" (not ALL) down here in FLORIDA have gotten the message, and only turn them on when they're parked (bike nights, bike shows, and other motorcycle hangout places). I do know that a number of L.E.O.'s ignore the statute or don't know it's "on the books"...but if you live down here, or come down for Bike Week (It's basically Bike Week YEAR 'round in Central FLA), just be aware that the statute DOES EXIST (Google It), and there are some that enforce it BIG TIME, with NO WARNINGS OFFERED.
This post is offered as INFORMATIONAL and/or a "BEWARE" item, and not intended for anything other than that. While I, personally think that MOTORCYCLE "VISIBILITY" is a very important SAFETY issue, RED and/or BLUE is a "NO-NO" color in a number of states, and you probably already know why.
I, personally think that everyone who has a driver's license should be required to READ the Traffic Statutes book in the state where they drive. You'd be surprised at some of the unknown or very little known statutes on the books. I taught TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT CLASSES at my Department for a number of years, and was astonished to learn some of the weird traffic laws that most have never heard of.
Ride Safe.
