How to adapt Schuberth helmet to Harley Helmet Headset?
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:20:00 PM »

Here's the situation.  I have a Schuberth C3 helmet and recently purchased a 2013 CVO Ultra Classic. Included with the bike was a set of Helmet Headsets with 2 sizes of clamps to attach to the helmet.  Unfortunately, Schuberth has the wide plastic band around the bottom of the helmet and neither clamp fits cleanly.  I know someone on this forum has discovered some retro to make this a clean install (or can come up with a better solution than I).  Thoughts on how to make this work?

Are they the Cardo headsets?

On my one helmet I drilled the shell and just ran the screws through the inside into the bracket.

These are not Cardo. They are the HD headsets that came with the bike.  Drilling may be the cleanest solution but these were intended to "bolt" onto the bottom lip of the helmet.  Does drilling into the shell weaken the helmet at all?  Thanks

The way I mounted the Cardos required two holes, I believe they were 1/8" or smaller, along the bottom edge of the shell.

I figure if those holes weakened the helmet enough to injure me, I already have more serious problems.

I kind of relate it to my job, I am required to wear nomex or 100% cotton underwear, to protect me in case my heavy, insulated nomex gear burns through  :nixweiss:
