Fullsac Stage II
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:55:14 PM »

I had installed the Fullsac X-Pipe/TTS/1-3/4" cores a few years back and it's worked really well. Lately I've been riding a lot more 2-up and am thinking about installing the Stage II setup with 2" cores. Steve's recommendation is while installing the cams to install the 0.03 gasket. I really wanted to install the S&S lifters and Quickee pushrods without having to remove the rocker covers and heads. Has anyone done the install without the Cometic gasket change and what were your results ? Anyone tried the newer Andrews 57 cam? Thanks

Kilaani just got that exact setup from Fullsac this week. 57H cams, X-pipe D, 2" baffles, TTS dyno tune, and NO Cometic head gaskets. She has a thread about on here, and Steve George posted a dyno chart of her bike. Pretty nice setup!

Toughest part of installing the Cometics is getting all the gray gunk from the stock gaskets off of the cylinder tops and head bottoms. It's nasty. I used Goof Off to get rid of it, but you still have a lot of scraping to do. Cometic also has their own 5-step head bolt torquing procedure that is really quite straightforward.

I think it's worth the trouble because of the improvement in the squish. They will probably net you 2-3 TQ and HP by raising the CR slightly.

IMO though, if you're going to pull the heads to install the gaskets, you may as well at least have some clean up/light porting/inspection done while you're there.

It just seems to me to be a waste of effort/time/money to pull the heads and not do all that.

Be carefull...the57 doesn't like a lot of compression.....I've tried it...!!!

I agree the 57 with added compression is a road that most times is not one you want to travel. Now our 577 genesis cam in the 110 will take comp ratio in the 10.5 range with out issue. I have not run it myself over that level , however I have a shop that will be using it in a 10.8 110 here in the next week or so.

I myself do like to remove the heads to cc the chambers to see where the comp ratio will really be.

Good news is the Fullsack kit is a coordinated package so just use that as-is and follow Steve Georges lead. The CR will be 9.6:1 which is acceptable for the 57 cams.

I keep reading about people using the S&S lifters with the travel limiters. What is the difference between them and the "regular" S&S lifters?

The stock lifter has about .180 piston travel, we normally set these lifters at .100 to .120 preload which gives us a remainder of .060 to .080 of travel left. The limiters take this .060 to .080 and remove the travel making the lifter a solid lifter at that point. These are used in engines that have high spring pressures that normally bleed of the lifters making it harder to start, or high spring pressures that bleed the lifters at higher rpm's. These lifters used with aggressive cams can and will be very noisy. If you are running stock valve springs there is NO need for these kind of lifters.....if you shave off .030 off the heads or use a .030 head gasket the limiters require you to use adjustable push rods because you lost that .060 to .080 extra travel. Personally I don't care for them.

The lifter topic is way off from where this started. But I will offer some updated info that some may not be aware of. The new S&S lifters are made 100% now in house from the info I was given from S&S. I will say that I have tested both styles of lifters from them and they do work very well. Example my stock 2012 SG has had lifter rattle on start up since new. I bought the bike at 1600 miles . It rattled very bad for about 8-10 seconds on start up. Since it was stock I took it to a dealer ( 3 times). well after 3 sets of lifters and 1 complete cam plate oil pump, new rocker supports shafts and rockers, I am being told that since its in the service manual that this is now a normal deal where lifters will bleed down that I am stuck with a rattle at start up..

I installed our Genesis cams and the new S&S lifters at the same time...  issue solved.. SO either I had gotten 3 sets of bad lifters or the new ones suck .. you make that opinion on your own  ;) BTW I am running the 330-0175 lifter ( new part #) without HLT.

Another side note is that .. another local dealer that I spoke to ,,, had said the HD has replaced two engines at this dealer due to this very thing?? go figure.

Today the dealer told me if I changed the cams or if they installed a non-Harley cam, it would void the rest of my ESP. What a surprise.

Local customer bought his bike with a stage I kit on it from dealer. Then bought the 103 kit.. Now ESP will not warranty anything engine related due to the fact the 103 kit he bought was minus the air cleaner.. WOW its all about the part number and a little bit of ink on a piece of paper. Ones shows crossed flag the other is legal.  Beware with that stuff its all in the fine print.
