Bike is now home, but the lights do not work...any thoughts
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:08:32 PM »

just brought the bike back home from dealer and runs real good (if you do not count lighting)
I had  true duals, Rush slip ons, SERT , open A/C and dyno'd

The front headlight and passing lights are dead.....and all fuses are ok
turn signals and other lighting ok

is there a hidden connector block that might have been pulled apart?   I do not have wiring diagram...

is this just a coincidence or were they just sloppy?

any thoughts

For whatever reason the fuses don't always match the chart in the fuse box cover either so check them all.

Mine was off on a road trip when I stopped on Friday at around 3pm at a HD dealer.  They were too busy to get to me, but a senior tech told me to check them all, bingo found the blown one.

He said he found it that way often. :nixweiss:

I pulled everyone and held it to light.......I did not put a meter on them
I checked the hi lo switch and had no response to either position.....

is the fust for headlamp also for passing lamps?  If it is I will pull fuses again and put on meter

I was just trying to take care of an easy fix as opposed to dragging it to the dealer

I was not going to tear bat wing apart yet

The first day, mine had headlight & turn signals working only.  No running lights.  Turned out to be a dead short with a pinched wire the culprit.  Came that way from York, apparently.  When I left the dealer, it was bright and sunny - I didn't notice the lack of running lights.  As it got dark toward dusk, I noticed.  Bike ran fine otherwise.

On a side note, the engine temp sensor shorted on my way to Florida a couple weeks ago.  Check engine light on intermittently, solved quickly and painlessly by HD in Bradenton (kudos to Kate in service there who fixed things up perfectly).

But that's two shorted / pinched wires so far.

recently had a problem with headlight/passing lamp blowing fuses, had a short under the "spot" light switch secondary to  loose connector. john

Well, my lights are working again!  What a pain to find out. Every fuse checked out good with meter still no lights.

the fuse was completely missing (gone) just so happen to find 1 spot of many that had 2 spade terminals not used

(many spots open where fuses could be put) and I did not have tech manual or operators book handy.

Why did they remove a fuse and not replace?

Such as simple fix and so hard to find.......oh well,  I will have a talk with the dealer next week.........by the way

what size fuse should I have put in (I put in 15 amp)

Thanks to all that tried to help......
