2013 Hydraulic Clutch Cable change
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:27:51 PM »

Hey all,

Just bought a 2013 CVO Ultra.  I am a tall guy, so every bike I get the first job is to put taller bars on it.  I have bought almost all parts, but I was told that the hydraulic clutch cable fitting has changed from 2012 to the 2013 where it goes in the side transmission cover.  The local HD dealer says they are trying to find a solution as none of the aftermarket shops have a cable that will work.  They appear to know of the problem, but no solution as of now.  Anyone out there know of a solution?

Just a WAG:  What about using a short extension cable between the clutch master cylinder and the original cable?  Don't know if there is an adapter that would connect the two, but if there is...  Not an ideal solution, but it might work until there's a better way.

HD told me they tried that on a set of 12" bars they are doing and the adapter was a hair too short.  I haven't decided if I am doing 12", 13" or 14" bars, so if it don't work on the 12" its not looking good for me as of now.

Just in case any of you are wanting to change your bars on a 2013.  After much crap and research magnum shielding and HD gave me a drag part no. that doesn't work.  it was a inverted 45 deg flare and it doesn't have the correct angle to hit the opening where the rubber boot is and opening for the side tranny cover. So after trying several different parts the winner is Goodridge it is in the drag fat book on page 1121 part no. 10324-03CH.  This comes two in a box.  You just screw this in the hole the stock cable came out of and screw on the universal brake line and bleed the clutch line and done.  Just calculate an extra 2" to the cable length since the fitting is about 2" shorter than the stock fitting.  My 14" yaffe bars are now installed on my 2013 CO Ultra Classic.

Here is a front view, you may not be able to see, but i ran everything including brake line and clutch line through the bars for a super clean look.

2013 SERG,

On my 12" Yaffee's, I needed +6 on both the clutch and the brake lines.  The length will probably be a little different on your bike.  I have an FLHXSE3, the clutch line was 72".  The brake line was replaced with a two piece line of 49" and 19".  All the lines came from Magnum Shielding.

My wiring was fine, I'm not sure if it will be on a Road Glide.

Hey Joe,

There are two things to consider on the 2013.  1) make sure you get the new yaffe bars directly from Yaffe since he has a new set special for bikes with hydraulic clutch. It has a flat area on the bar where your hydraulic master cylinder is and that will help with certain angles depending on the position of your bars.  2) Because of the clutch cable adapter remember to add 2" to whatever length someone tells you to get unless they give you a length from a 2013 bar job.  If you want to know exactly the length cable you will need I recommend calling bagger nation themselves and asking they know exact size.  i think I talked to Bret I believe, very helpful.  If you need further help or part numbers other than cable lengths let me know.  Just remember your hydraulic clutch on a 2013 is different than previous models and last i checked no aftermarket folks have a cable for the 2013 and you will have to make something like I did.  Mine runs like a champ no problems.

I am getting ready to do a set of 12" yaffe's on my buddies bike that is exactly like yours the orange 2013 CVO RG.  He is just waiting on the bars from yaffe that he ordered 8 weeks ago...only down fall about ordering directly from them is the wait.

Good Luck

SotLucky, too bad you weren't in Cypress California.
I asked my mechanic to order the parts needed for the install, he quoted me $450.00 parts an labor LOL
I know that the price will escalate by the time it's all said and done.
I got my bars from directharleyparts.com and might sell them if I run into any problems from here. As it is, I really don't want my hands about the fairing with taller bars.

Thanks.

If he is charging you $450 for the 12" yaffe bars all cables and wire extensions plus labor. You got a steal !!!!  I would be very cautious of this quote.  The bars alone are $375.  Let us know if that is what you finally pay, because if that is true I will spend the gas money and ride my next bike out there and have them done. For that price it isn't worth the hassle of doing them myself.
