Question about removing the XM Module
« on: March 29, 2013, 04:37:30 PM »

If I remove the XM module from my 2012 CVO Ultra, will it affect anything else?  It looks like all I have to do is disconnect it in one place and pull the antenna connection, unscrew the bracket at each side, and that's it.  Can I just remove that, leave all the other wires in place on the bike, and be done with it?  I never use the XM and the module is just in the way of putting an amp there.

It's actually the power supply that mounts there and I can't get the fairing back on with that XM module in there.  I'm hoping that removing it will give me the room I need.  I really have no desire to relocate it, since I don't use it.

Removing the XM module won't effect anything.  It's just as simple as you describe...   :2vrolijk_21:

I have that exact amp and speaker kit that I kept from my previous bike prior to trading it in. I am itching to put it in my new FLHTCUSE8, but unsure of how to interface with the stock amp under the tour pack. Did you capture a picture of your install after removing your XM? That's a lot of stuff to fit in! especially the side speaker pods. I used Dynamat in several sections on the back of the fairing on my last bike, seemed to help deaden the front enough to bring out more lower sounds. Thanks

I will try to remember to take pics again when I take it apart to replace the converter.  I'm still undecided on whether to velcro the XM module to the underside of the head unit, or just sell the XM module.  If I velcro it, I'll include that in the photos.  As far as Dynamat, I'm a little bit terrified of the prospects of putting anything else inside the fairing to make it a tighter fit than it is now.  I'd like to put some kind of sound deadener in there, but on my last bike, it made it a really tight fit, and I'm already struggling to get the fairing back on now.  Once I make any final adjustments, if it goes back on with any ease, then I may go back in and add sound deadener.

I certainly won't miss it, since I won't subscribe to their service again.  I think it was about 2 years ago when I got it for the bike and my SUV and after the initial period, they sent me a renewal bill for over $700. It took me about a month and probably more than 25 calls to get them to cancel my service and the bill.
