TTS - Warmup Enrichment Table
« on: April 07, 2013, 09:19:50 AM »

Got a question regarding the Warmup Enrichment Table in TTS. I have an '08 SG, have not had the bike dyno tuned, rather have v-tuned it. Bike runs good, starts and warms up fine, only real issue is what I would describe as a strange idle rhythm once warmed up. Kinda goes off rhythm every other engine cycle, if that makes sense. The motor idles warmed up around 133 C, and when colder than that, actually idles more as it should as I hear the motor.

My question, does the Warmup Enrichment Table effect the on going idle after the engine is at operating temperature? I assume it does, since the table has a temperature range of up to 160 C. I'm speculating that the AFR value in the Warmup Enrichment Table maybe is too rich when the motor is idling at 133 C. Like I said, to me the idle sounds better when the motor is not at operating temperature, and just before the 133 C temp, the AFR is lower in the table.

So before I do start making changes there, I wanted to know if in fact that table does stay active any time the motor is idling, and thus offsets the AFR by the amount in the table at that temperature?

Also, the idle areas of the MAP are in closed loop.

Thanks,
Brian

The Warm-up table works like a choke on the carbs....it adds fuel to a cold motor and/or a motor starting. The electronic choke (Warm Up Enrichment) degrades as the engine temp warms up.....it DOES shut completely off when the engine is at operating temps. What values you see in the table at higher temps is for starting....every time you cycle the ignition switch the Warm Up table is activated then it degrades quickly as the engine gets back to operating temps.
If the engine is not idling correct when warmed up, it's in the VE tables and/or fuel table.....timing can make a difference also if you have a 44 cal in the bike.

Thanks for the info on that table Doc. I should probably look at the VE tables then. The starting MAP I used is the EUE205-03-A0.MT8. One thing I noticed is that when v-tuning, there is never any VE changes made in the 1% throttle opening of the tables. So is it safe to assume that the values there around the idle RPM have no effect? Or should they be tweaked to try and smooth the idle too?

Thanks,
Brian

Your bike is idling at 5% throttle / 25 to 35 kPa. The 1% column is normally for decel.
Try adding 4 or 5 units to both VE tables at 750 rpm to 1250 rpm between 3% and 5% throttle.....see if that doesn't smooth it out. If it gets worse you know you went the wrong direction so do the same except subtract value from the VE's

Thanks Doc, I'll do that, and see what I get. I suspect it's lean, simply because the idle when the motor is cold sounds smoother, and the VE values in that area got very small when tuning.

Doc, I made the suggested changes, and also slightly raised the VE amounts in the 1500 rpm cells in the 2% and 5% area, as they were pretty low as well. The idle has improved, and sounds more like it should, just a slight lope and stays pretty consistent. The rpm's actually come away from idle crisper now as well. Without the proper AFR measuring equipment to determine, it at least does sound better now. Thanks for the advise.
