JRI shocks

Does anyone have any experience with JRI shocks as sold by Howard of Motorcycle Metal???

I don't see any info on the JRI shocks on the Motorcycle Metal site.  On the JRI site, I see shocks made for drag racing and road racing bikes (crotch rockets).  Nothing for heavy tourers.   :nixweiss:


BTW...the Metal Motorcycle X Factor fork cartridges look a lot like the Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 carts...

It's true there is very little info on their website regarding these shocks.
There is a tab way down on the home page that's says JRI and shows you 1 photo.

I learned about them from calling Howard yesterday.
They are slightly cheaper than Ohlins #6's.
They also have the remote reservoir.

According to Howard they are built better, should last longer, all the seals are double seals, more machined and fewer cast parts.
Made in the North Carolina.

I'm very close to ordering a set and was hoping I'd find someone who has already tried them.

I just talked to Howard at Motorcycle Metal and I'm really interested in a set of these.  Did you have a chance to try a set of the JRI's?

JRI makes a great product! However you might check out some more affordable alternatives?

You might consider Progressive reservoir shocks!

I put a pair of 12.5" Progressives on my commuter street bob. Minimal preload, minimal compression - rebound dampening.
Combined with the Race tech Gold Valves in front and the fork brace I redid the complete suspension system for a little less than $65o off of ebay!

The bike handles my 44mile 25mph-85mph pothole/grooved commute so much better than stock...
25 mph turns were kinda scary at 30 on factory susp... now 55 is doable comfortably.
Bike is more stable in wind at 90mph now than was in dead calm air at 55mph from factory.
RoadShock to rider is almost none. Bottoms out-never... Used to bottom out 11-13 times a day depending on route.
Never wallows, never sideshifts, never an iffy feeling, never vague...

Love it.

I ended up not getting JRI.
I was uneasy with no feed back from anyone.

I ended getting Bitubo and am delighted with them.

Hey Cowboy! Did you go with the JRI's? I was talking with Howard today and will probably order the JRI B. Would really like to know if you did get em and what you think about em. I've got an 03 road king and i ride 2 up most of the time.

Buy the Ohlins.  The JRI's are not easy to adjust, you will need to buy two special tools that didn't come with them.  I can't tell any difference from the stock premium HD shocks that I took off.  Not a happy camper.

Cowboy, did you get the JRI's from Howard @ Motorcycle Metal? A lot of the posts say they had to put a few miles and adjustments to get them right. Howard sells both Ohlins and JRI's, the JRI's being a few $ less than the Ohlins.

Yes, I got them from Howard.  I hope I can get them set right but they are a pain in the ass to adjust.  My advice is to buy the Ohlins from Howard.  The extra cost of the Ohlins is offset by the two wrenches that you have to buy to adjust the JRI's.  I just bought a Breakout that rides better than my FLHXSE3, still an unhappy camper!
