v tune with street tuner
« on: April 28, 2013, 06:07:38 PM »

Folks

I just got done doing three vtune runs with the street tuner after changing my air cleaner. the software is extremely confusing. there is a flow chart of the process but it leaves out one important step. fortunately my wife is extremely skilled at dealing with recalcitrant windows software and by putting a copy of the sofware on a second laptop so the directions could be read WHILE looking at the screen she figured it out and away we went. [you have to have both cylinders vtune "working" screens up at the same time when you save the file so that you end up with a new file to load in the bike]
runs smoother, will know in a few tanks of gas if the milage changes, louder, the first ride after the vtune sessions the throttle is not exibiting the sensation of the bike speeding up as i let off a bit - ie at full throttle its always slowed down so i roll back a bit to get to max power.

either way she saved my bacon, hopefully its all good.

the harley street tuner, not the race tuner

it will only handle the street legal combinations, basically

air cleaner

air cleaner and 110 kit

air cleaner and 103 kit

air cleaner and 103 and 255 cams.

and any of those with any of the legal mufflers.

i installed a air cleaner & have cvo 4" mufflers.

it is essentially the race tuner "lite" at a much lighter price. i got mine when i realized that folks thought only the dealer could use it so it was going new in box for 50 bux but hd had changed the software so the home user could use it the same as the race tuner. so i have 50 bux in it.

and it works. but the software has a steep learning curve - very simple concept - ride, record, new map, install, repeat.

so far - time will tell - it seems to be acceptable for the range of what its for. in a month or so ill know for sure.

if the parts are on the list - it does seem to tune the whole range of cells - however its limited

change more - and its not going to work, its not for big changes at all

but it was cheap - and it seems to work

another couple hundred miles

so far - very smooth

one thing i noticed is that when doing vtune sessions it runs sort of rough, but then when i burn in the tune without the "tune" box checked its much smoother running.

decent milage, wont know for a few tanks

doesn't have the die off at full throttle it used to have - it does go flat though. if the head wind is enough to be trouble in the past i could mess with the throttle to get it to run the best, about 85%, now it goes to full throttle without the drop off - but when i get there i downshift anyway.
