2011 Street Glide w/Traxion Dynamics AK20 up front, now getting 300mm Bitubos in the rear.

I understand that there may be more than one correct way to install these shocks in a Bagger, but could still use some help making my decision.

If I mount the shock with the reservoir up and facing rearward, will I definitely have to shim the saddlebags outward to avoid rubbing?

If so, what are Folks using for shims (hate to use a stack of washers), and how are they doing it? When I take the saddlebag off, I clearly see how I would shim-out the forward saddlebag bracket, but how/where would I shim-out the rear bracket (I'm referring to the spring-like receptacles that accommodate the twist-lock saddlebag pins)? The rear bracket doesn't seem able to be shimmed.

If I mount the shock with the reservoir down and facing rearward, does this negate the need for shimming the saddlebags altogether? If so, what would be the disadvantage of mounting this way, if any?

Which reservoir position, up or down, offers the easiest on-the-fly adjustment?

Is it possible to use Bruckus saddlebag mounting hardware with both of the the above choices?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

This is how I mounted them on my last two bikes.  On the '12 SEUC (current bike), I shimmed the font bag mounting bracket with washers to distance the bag from the reservoir.  I removed the seat strap on my bike because I hate jacking with it every time I need to take the seat off, so I will never have a need to remove the bracket, thus the washers work fine.  6,000+ miles and no problems with rubbing, even with the bags fully loaded for touring.

A couple clicks of compression dampening on top of the reservoir to dial the shocks in for a load and I'm set.

Brukus hardware works fine with this setup.

I was told that mounting the reservoir a certain way (I forget if it was up or down) will interfere with the 4-point docking hardware when using a passenger backrest.

Do you have a 4-point docking system? If so, have you experienced this problem?

No, sorry.  Can't speak to that.  I have an Ultra with fixed TP.

After looking at your pic, I can't help but wonder, do you have to remove the shock to swap a set of brake pads?

Thanks
