Volt gauge pegged at 16 volts
« on: May 30, 2013, 03:13:47 PM »

Recently I noticed that the volt gauge on my 2010 FLHXSE stayed pegged at 16 volts no matter what.  When I turned the switch on it went to 16 and stayed there, even before starting the bike.  After starting, it stayed at 16.  I checked the voltage from the battery and it was normal, I checked the voltage from the charging system and it was normal.  So I did a search on here and found others who had reported similar issues in the past and the fact that the gauges were very inaccurate.  Yesterday, I took the bike into the dealer to have a FOB reprogrammed so I would have a spare.  I asked them to check the gauge.  They found the same thing I did and replaced the gauge under the ESP warranty.  (also reprogrammed the FOB for free and replaced the battery in it for $2).  Now the gauge works as I would expect.  Still that small gauge isn't very precise but at least it is reasonable.

Just posted this since most of the other posts regarding this issue were over a year old.  Not sure if anyone else is having the problem but wanted to relate what I found.
