Apple iPad advice
« on: July 17, 2013, 01:18:10 PM »

Looking to buy an iPad.  I have filled my 32gb iPhone with about 3,000 songs and 10,000 pictures.  I assume I should at least go with the 64gb iPad?  Also, Aplle says it has a "Micro Sim" sim card.  What is this?  Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Micro Sim is just a smaller sim card which would be necessary for the 4g version of the iPad and would be taken care of by the carrier. Should not be a concern for you either way.

Based on your existing usage of the iphone, and if you want to store the same/more music/pics then 64gb is the way to go (that's what I have). Or you can store the songs/pictures in the cloud (iCloud) and have minimal info locally stored. Then you would access the music/pictures in the cloud when needed. However, depending on how much you access the music/pictures, you would use up your data plan and have to pay more to the carriers if you go with the 4G version (the micro sim question) or need to find a wifi hotspot.

I personally like to have everything local, it is quicker to access and I don't need to have connectivity when I am accessing my data.

Hope this helps.

I have had several iPads. Buy the model with the largest storage capacity that you can afford. They are neither upgradable nor expandable (no memory card slot). You will use up memory faster than you expect!

The micro SIM is merely the latest and smallest mobile communications industry SIM card version. What SIM type the device has is of little or no concern to the user.

All devices that communicate over a cell provider's network have a SIM card, which identifies the device to the cell network. The SIM is only present on iPad models that have the mobile communications capability (AT&T or Verizon). It's not used, nor is it even needed, for communication via Wi-Fi - only for communication over a cell provider's network.

If you want an iPad with mobile communications capability, you must buy one with the AT&T or Verizon feature. It cannot be added later. All iPads come with Wi-Fi capability built in, though.

Hope this helps.
