I decided to get out of motorcycling and put an AD on the this forum and another Harley forum and Craigslist. I have not got one inquire so is my price to high, bad time of the year to sell a bike, not a desired color or what? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dale

I just bought a used 2012 Orange/Black Ultra from a dealer.  It was completely stock, in immaculate shape, had all the CVO goodies (cover, gold key, etc), and had 6,000 miles on the clock.  I paid $32,450 for it.

Another thing to consider would be returning your bike to stock.  I wouldn't have considered my bike had it been modded; I would have kept looking for another one.  Now granted, you haven't done much to it, but I'd consider returning it to stock and selling the parts separately.

Good luck.

Have had better luck with Cycle Trader and chopper exchange. Same luck as you on craigslist. Price is close and leaves room to haggle. Good luck.

I purchased a 2012 CVO ultra on July 4. I paid 32000.00 for it and it had only 366 miles and 3000.00 of work done to it after it was purchased. Your price seems a little high in my opinion .

You lose the most in the first year....at $34,900 you are in the "for a little more I can buy brand new" range. It only works if you find someone who wants the exact accessories that you put on it or absolutely must have that color.

Sadly for sellers, but not for buyers, it seems Harley has managed to saturate the CVO market.  Resale values have succumbed to the pressures of the market, and even brand new CVO's sit on showroom floors for months in some parts of the country.  Some dealers even sell them for less than MSRP, a situation that would have been unheard of just a few short years ago.  So you may have to take a look at your pricing.

I took a look at KBB and they show a trade in value of $27k and a retail value of $32.5k, btw.

I agree with the above statements. I think it's a good time of the year to sell since warm weather brings out the riding bug in most people who want to ride. It may be a little high in the pricing. Even thought you put hundreds/thousands into mods you can only expect pennies on the dollar in return not retail on them. Then as mentioned you are competing with the dealers who are selling brand new with full warranties and lower mileage.
We all know that your bike has many more miles in it but some buyers may wonder why you are selling, was there a hidden problem etc. and for piece of mind they buy new.
As far as the color it could go either way.....it could turn off a "traditional" Harley person who thinks a true Harley is only in black but there are plenty of people who like the safety and flash of a bright color, you just have to find a flash and bling person.
Another thing is dealerships help with financing a bike so some people shop there vs. private sales. Maybe you could consider consignment selling at a local dealership, you would get walk-up traffic looking at the bike and some dealerships help with financing buyers too. they may charge you a percentage and an inspection fee to put it on their floor though.

Having just sold my 2010 Tequila Sunrise SESG that had LOTS of mods for less than I wanted, I will tell you that if you are not getting interest, then your asking price is too high... Period. Everything sells for what someone is willing to pay for it.

That's a beautiful CUSE - but the yellow color, like orange, limits the market. I love the bright colors (obviously!) but many buyers seem to be more comfortable with the more subdued colors.

It's not easy to sell a top of the line bike like yours for top dollar, because as others have mentioned you are close to new in price. If you want top dollar, you have to wait for the buyer who absolutely loves that year/model/color... And that can be a long wait. In my case, it wasn't worth the wait because I wanted my money back out of the bike, so I took less to get rid of it.

Good luck selling it.
