Mad as Hell!!!!!
« on: June 27, 2013, 07:51:14 AM »

Currently on a ride from Detroit to Los Angeles with 8 bikes, 3 of which are CVOs.  So, yesterday we stop for gas in Amirillo, TX.  I pumped gas and we were just about to get back on the road, when a green Ford pickup is backing up in our direction.  My buddy and I start yelling Hey, Watch out, etc, but truck is still coming.  We then realize he is going to hit us, so we jump out the way and it hits a pole by the pump and my brand new Roman Gold/Burnt Emerald CVO Roadglide, crushing the front fender(thank God for the pole taking the brunt of the impact.  Come to find out, this idiot did not fully set the emergency brake when he went in the gas station and the pick up was a runaway.  SMH!

It is going to be a task to get the replacement fender.

Sounds like you got Lucky with just the fender getting damaged hope the bike still rides OK for the rest of your trip, you can get a fender from the dealer
but it will take some time since its a CVO I needed one back in 2008 on a CVO RK Annie and it took 6 weeks, Good luck with the trip Brother.

Man, what a bummer.  Glad nobody was hurt.  Can be a real downer when you have damage/accident on a trip.  However, it sounds like from your post that at least you can still ride it and make applesause out of mashed apples (fender in your case) and enjoy the rest of the trip.  I may have some good news here on the fender.  This past March, I was told it would be 8-10 weeks for my replacement saddlebag for Ginger (another trip "incident" so I know how you feel...) but one week later, I had the new bag installed so maybe you will luck out on yours, too.  Best wishes for you and the crew on the remainder of your adventure.

So true.  Several years ago my brand new '07 cvo was damaged while on a long road trip.  Leaving gas station had to make a left hand turn and was on a grade sloping to our left.  A gal riding with us came up on my right side very close in order to converse with my wife who was on my bike also.  Anyway the gal lost her balance and fell into me on the right side.  I almost held it up until she lost grip on her clutch and her bike spun around and took me down.  Since falling to the low side of the slope it did not stop at the crash bars, oh no.  Went full over with tires sticking up in the air.  Damage - both crash bars, saddlebag bottom and top, leather tour pak lid, front fender, outer fairing, bent handlebars, broken clutch lever, tore up heated grip dial switch.  About $4k in damage which her insurance paid thank goodness.

So yes chit does happen and is really upsetting at the time.  But no one was hurt and we all laugh about it now.  Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Having ridden away from accidents that just as easily might not have walked away from I think its bad juju to kvetch about a wrinkled fender that will be a 15 minute repair sometime after a nice vacation is complete.   Ride on and have fun.

Agree with Don on this one.  It is an inconvenience but it could have been so much worse.  Don't sweat the small chit.

Currently on a ride from Detroit to Los Angeles with 8 bikes, 3 of which are CVOs.

Firstly :             :worthless:

Secondly:  As the above have noted, this is a "blip" in the ride. You're on the ride of a lifetime and this will be a funny story in a month or so. Seems like it's time to enjoy!   :huepfenjump3:

Thirdly:   Let me know when you're getting into Los Angeles and if you have time for a tour.   The first round is on me.   :drink:

The fender is not the issue with me.  The 8 weeks of having to look at it during the 15 weeks of our riding season, simply because HD does not want to share the CVO paint colors or allow Gunslinger to paint crash repairs, is why I am really pissed.  I know it could have been worse, but I am pretty meticulous with my bikes.

I will be in LA friday afternoon.
