The book shows four gauge illumination lights as being the 194-type, but reality shows the fuel and air temp to be different. They look like they would turn counterclockwise and pull out, but that doesn't seem to be the case. How do these things come out? I'm trying not to use a ton of force, as I don't want to break them. While I have the fairing apart, I want to change and upgrade the bulbs I can.

All the small gauges are the same bulb and they pull straight out. The accessory oil temp gauge does turn first to remove.

Thank you. Pulling the crap out of it will remove it. They are all the same bulbs.

Would there be any issue with using LED bulbs?

No, they do provide better lighting for the gauges.

Any suggestions for bulbs?

I'm looking at the 1W bulbs like these: 2pc Red T10 Wedge 1 Watt High Power LED Light Lamp Bulb 192 193 194 259 280 Set

If my calculations are correct, they are 60 lumens vs. the stock 25. I'm wondering if they will be TOO bright?

I wish there was a rheostat for the dash. Maybe I should create one?

Got em today from

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121074247807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Shipped quick and all work. Couple things for install. If you look at first pic you can see one of the leads of the bulb at the base, and that it is slightly more toward center of bulb. The original bulbs have two leads on each side so there's no chance of it not making contact when plugged in. With these you may want to (I had to) just bend them a little closer to the outer edge of the base. This way you're sure to get contact. Check that you have it inserted correctly before snaking socket back in. Polarity matters on these whereas it doesn't with the standard bulbs being replaced.

This is with all four changed to LED. I don't feel that it's too bright or distracting.

So $14 for all four. Supposedly last a lot longer than the stock, and I also found while taking the original ones out that the bottom two were either never inserted all the way and hanging out of the gauge a little, or they bounced out at some point. Now they're all snapped in tight and shining bright. :cherry:

I noticed two hanging out when I took apart my fairing as well.

I wound up going with the "5 x T10 194,168,2825, 5 x 5050 SMD LED Red Super Bright Car Lights Lamp Bulb" for $6.29 from eBay. They seem pretty decent to me.
